Smokey - My gen4 import

Post by johnm » Sat Oct 27, 2012 11:37 am

Well how's it hanging you pack of reprobates?
Was signed up on Prelude uk then was told this is the place to be so hello all!! :D

I've had 3 Preludes (all gen4) over the years including my latest one. I hunted for a while for this one though (3yrs!!) and in between getting this I had a number of wagons but my two favourite would have to be my r33 and r34 skylines.

Anyways, back to Smokey 8-)

To say im happy would be an understatement!
Bought her last week to the day actually, sat 20/10/2012.

1992 SI VTEC Prelude imported in 2001.
Load of documents from the land of the rising sun.
A lot of service history from it coming into England and then over here to Ireland.

It needs a lot of work to be brought back to its former glory though. Rear arches have been repaired before, but badly, front wing and bonnet need replaced/repaired, full respray, engine overhaul too with some electrics all rewired properly. Strip out the 4 wheel steering, as frankly, its bloody dangerous! 120 (kmh of course  ) on the motorway coming home and it starts steering! Wasn't nice!

So my plans?
Stripped out, interior painted (maybe candy red with the bay to go the same colour)
Couple of nice arse huggers
Full respray in the same colour
Some nice wheels (really leaning towards SA3R's)
Engine rebuild
Gen5 hubs & Glass sunroof
4ws removal

All be done by myself, and she will be done. Think I'll be holding onto this one for a bit!

So spec:

2.2 SI Vtec
K&N panel filter
Genuine Spoon Racing ECU w/ VTEC Controller - disabled
Kamikaze Racing 4-1 Manifold w/ 2.5" Collector
2.5" Solid Fabrications De-Cat and Cat-Back
35mm Apex Lowering Springs
A/C Removed
Flick switch installed to disable speedo convertor in 1st gear to allow VTEC - disabled (this is getting ripped out too! hate speedo converters!)

Not the best photo's but here's Smokey!

Oh - and she is LOUD! lol

So after getting the garage sorted eventually!!! you would not believe the state the folks had managed to get it into!

I got started on it :D
Got loads of cuts, broke a couple of nuts, banged the noggin a couple of times but holy sh*t did I miss having a project ;D

So up she went and got the side skirts, bumpers, lights, rear steering, rear arb, exhaust off...

Image

The rust isn't too bad. Passenger side its ok, just some work to do can probably get away with isopon but the drivers side will need some welding

Psgr

Driver side

Control box for the 4ws

Image

and the 4ws itself (with the exhaust & rear arb)

Image

Its weighs a tonne!! No joke. Glad I've took it off!

This is how the rear is sitting at the minute

Image

Image

Most of the rust is items that can be replaced sell is probably 95% grand so just the arches to do.

Also got started on the front a bit while waiting for the WD to do it's magic

Image

had a look around.....

Image

Awesome........... :-X

So that is it until tomorrow when the back end will be compeletly stripper of the suspension, petrol tank etc.

Cheers lads.

It was for getting torched today :suicide:
It was a serious bump back to reality after yesterday's flying start all I managed to get accomplished today was the rear sub and most of the suspension out. 20 years really doesn't fair well. Talk about corroded nuts, welded in bolts, snapped studs.

Could not get the rear subframe free from the lower arm, and if i hit any harder the whole car will come down on top of me! lol.

So thought feck it, rip the whole thing out. Its now sitting with more wd40 on it.

Image

and these are the offenders in question:

Image

So while there sitting in more wd40 i empty the petrol tank to get it off
If the wd40 doesn't loosen it anymore its all getting cut off as there is a new subframe and new bushed going into it.

Image

From here on out every nut I went at needs the angle grinder in order to get it off.
So I called it quits tonight to let the spilled petrol dry up.

Get back at it during the week.
