Hey,
Thought i'd get a little thing started, seeing as all you guys seem to put so much effort in!

Bought my prelude in June 2011, it's a 2.2VTi BB8 Manual that actually only had one lady owner since new in 1999! She'd put 66,000 on it.

I wanted the smartest Prelude i could find, and I bloody love it, which is why i probably paid too much for it....

After more than a year of happy, trouble free motoring (it's my only car), i found these forums. The impetus was a rear blowout at 85mph on the A303 (not very dramatic actually), which then led to the discovery of the wheel being badly buckled. Not sure if the puncture caused the buckle or the otherway round!

Image

Oh, and one of the fronts has a big dent in it, probably a pot hole, which slowly leaks air.

Image

I've only been a forum member for a week or 2, and reading about all the incredible work you guys do, and the time you spend on your ludes has inspired me.
I'm no mechanic, but i've done a couple of simple things, changed a radiator/bonnet/bumper on my old punto after a bit of a collision back in the day, and yesterday did my first small job on the lude. Inspiration came from Bio, and his Lude-Profile. I decided to seal the rear arches! Not a huge job, no one can see it, and it won't make it any faster, but hey, you gotta start somewhere!

I used Hammerite Underseal, and treated some signs of rust with a wire brush and Hammerite Kurust.
Next is to do the Front Arches, and maybe take the rear bumper off like Bio did and have a look at that.
This is fun!

Oh, and im also after some advice from you wise Prelude owners.
Having some sticking issues with the rear calipers (which seems quite common from what i've read!), i know the rear discs need replacing, which i'm planning on doing, but would you suggest i replace the rear calipers or do they just need taking apart and given some TLC? I'm not averse to replacing, and a brake upgrade sounds like a good thing to do overall.

Welcome to the forum, looks like a real good prelude you have there.

I'm sure someone will come up and advice you about the rear brakes. :)

I have never stripped any 'lude calipers, and am sure that those more experienced than I will advise shortly. Though I have overhauled stickeing calipers previously. I wouldnt say it is a difficult task but just a matter of taking your time and having some patience.
Meanwhile try taking a look at this thread from the 'how to' section.

Good work on the arches - perhaps put some waterproof sealant inside the arch lip as well.

If it's just the slider-pins sticking then it's an easy job, but if the rubber seal on the piston
is split & causing it to stick, then I personally would do a caliper exchange with a motor
factors.

cheers.
i removed those rubber strip type things that cover the rim of the arch, then gave that a really good clean and a treat with the Kurust before painting with the Underseal, putting the strips back on and painting with Underseal again. that should have sealed it all nicely.

New rear discs have arrived courtesy of ebay, and just picked up the exchange calipers from my local motorfactors. Thanks for that advice, all very shiny, very exciting.
Hopefully have time to be brave and fit it all this weekend!
