My type s is 1001421, and first registered dec’96.
Am assuming that sir’s type s’ etc. numbers ran concurrently, so must be a really early one.
Not sure when manufacturing started- Sept 96?

JEBB4’s Prelude BB6 SiR

Post by JEBB4 » Tue Apr 25, 2023 10:49 am

Finally got an afternoon to spend on this thing..
Car has been sat collecting dust since early February so today i decided to knock the dust off it..

I loves me some fresh wax beading :scaredtoss:

Also the fact that 3 of the wheels were missing centre caps was annoying me and looked jobby so I stole the centre caps off of the cl9’s original wheels, which just so happen to be the same size wheel and tyres as the prelude so might throw them on in future to see what they look like but for know t caps have cleaned the blades up nicely 8)

The interior of the car seems to be in pretty good condition overall with no signs of ever being disassembled in the past (no tool marks) so I will be doing a full deep clean in future (wet vac etc) but firstly I wanted to get the mess in the boot sorted out..

I can only imagine the previous owner had taken many trips to the beach, threw his soaking, sand filled togs in the boot and never cleaned it out.. there was sand everywhere and the cardboard cover was rooted..

The spare wheel holding screw had completely seized into the boot floor which meant that the plastic piece span and came away instead… so that was nice…

Found a rusty old 17mm spanner

Then I give it a quick degrease and wipe down to asses the damage..

That’s good enough for now, it will get cleaned up with a wire wheel and rust converter applied, then a lick of primer and paint in near future..
Other items of note are that the car has an intermittent ABS warning light that comes on occasionally, didn’t appear for ages when I first bought it but then came on as I set off one day, today it was on as soon as I started her but then it went off and stayed off even when drove around the block (VTEC works  ).. I will check codes as a starting point.
Also the car has got stem seal issues as it smokes like a trooper if left to idle for a while but I know I can do stem seal’s without removing the head so not too fussed.. it will need fresh fluids, t belt and water pump and that’s before I’ve actually even lifted the car and looked underneath
Oh yeah and it’s having a manual conversion once project ek1 is sold ;)

looks good - wonder if the water in the boot is due to rear light gaskets needing replaced...cleaned up well though.

Yeah I’d say you are right there, all hondas seam to suffer with that issue..
ahh yeah your car looks like a really good example, you should do the conversion I’d say it would be easy to source parts over there to do it.. and much cheaper than here in Aus, go for it ;)
