It's sketchy as hell, its like your back wheels randomly come loose and point wherever they want! Not good when going down hill, round a corner at 70mph+ kinda like hitting a patch of ice at high speed but only with your back wheels.

Well as some of you may know my 4ws was not working when I first put my current lude on the road, I fixed it a couple of weeks ago and the difference is VERY noticeable. I did not feel comfortable in it but I do now even though I am not a fan of 4WS.

As said earlier, we are not ganging up on you, collective experiences may save you cash, headaches or worse.

Not to state the obvious but there is a MASSIVE difference between a fully working 4WS setup, and a faulty one.
IMO one inspires confidence, the other incontinence...

I obviously don't need to mention the disbled 4WS but...

How have you gone about this? Have you just removed the belt, or have you looped the lines on the rack?

Hoping it's not coming across like we're all ganging up on you, we're obviously just concerned for your safety

And with regards to the the PAS, if you've just removed the belt, you're actually still forcing all the fluid through the rack, but with no assistance, making life a lot lot harder for yourself. Whereas if you loop the lines on the rack, after draining out most of the fluid (leaving just enough in to keep it lubricated), this will be the closest (fairly simple way) of having a manual rack

Has anybody on here driven HARD a 4WS Lude with 4WS not working?

I don't know I am not a medium who can speak to the dead.

I drive mine hard last week ( I've removed the 4ws ecu ) advice - fix it, or remove it properly. I jobby my self.

OK let clear this up. When I got my Lude, 4WS wasn't working & yes the back wheels were a bit 'snatchy', especially going over bumps.

But since fitting much stiffer springs & dampers that problem has completely gone away. With the right suspension you can drive as hard as you like & it just feels like a 2WS car. Even going over bumps is fine, it lands level.

The way I see it, the return springs for the back wheels are pretty strong so as long as your rear suspension can keep the back tyres on the ground the back wheels point forwards.

I'm not removing the system in case the new buyer wants to fix it.

Or am I just a complete idiot?

The latter sorry, they are just springs and with 1.2 ton going round corners combined with bumps and pot holes its only a matter of time before your rear wheels pivet enough to send you to the ditches.

Sorry but that is the way it is. Stiffer up an down is not going to compensate left to right steering, springs holding your wheels man, not like a fixed axle.

When I changed the suspension, the snatcheness went away...what can I say?

DISCLAIMER: I'm not recommending you go racing with faulty steering. My advice although BRILLIANT is not to be taken as gosbal, even though it actually is. My techniques although INFALLIBLE are not to be undertaken by anyone without HUGE Balls!

I'm not gonna add to the 4WS debate cos everyone has made pretty good contributions already and you seem set on carrying on the way it is.

What I will ask though, how is it you can use the word infallible yet seem to have created the word gosbal?
