Self lightened, they need bits shaving off as they interfere with the titanium valve retainers otherwise. I spent a shocking amount of time getting it to work and balancing them out, not an incredible weight saving, but it all helps.
This I am massively intrigued by... They don't mention in any listings (that I recall seeing) that if you fit after-market retainers, you will need to modify or change the rockers? (I haven't even see after market rockers?)
Any details?
Any pics of the clash and the mods?

Curious where/how the power steering cooler works around the inter-cooler?
Image
The inter-cooler pipes are the wrong way round though? (hot side is black, cold side is red! ;) :P )

Did the intake filter have to go on that side so the intake hose has to come all the way across the front, or could it have gone under the passenger side so it tucked round closer/shorter?) I guess perhaps space constrained there by the oem washer tank?

Rotating the battery looks very ingenious. Interested in seeing how you've done that.

(BTW the orange starter motor will bug me - now that the rocker cover is blue and not orange   )

Fab work, figuring this all out by yourself.

Nice work figuring that out. How does the shaft cope with the different thickness gears? (looks like the 4g gear is about half the thickness of the atr one?)
The gear presses on really tightly, it all went together ok.

I did the rocker cover with a black base, then a layer of white (done with a template) then blue colour, then more white, repeat a few times and then lacquer.

Other news, I've fabbed a down pipe and the car started on first attempt. :D

Followed quickly by the oil cooler crapping itself so it quickly got shutdown and I am now waiting for parts.

I meant, how does it sit on the shaft? Does the gear sit half off the end of the shaft, or does the gear just slide futher up onto the shaft than the 4g gear did? :D

It slides further up the shaft, leaving 2-3 mm at the bottom.

These are the Brian Crower made retainers. They are really subtle about (to the point of misleading) it with a note - "Note: Mandatory to check valve guide to retainer clearance prior to operation."

Sorry I don't, effectively notches need to be made in the arms otherwise the edge of the (thicker) retainer meets the rocker before the end of the valve can.

Exactly the washer tank in that space, surprisingly you'd struggle to make it work even if it was not there.

So Covid's given me some spare time, I progressed this nicely.

Not may pics unfortunately, but here's one mid exhaust fabrication.

Image

So once that was finished I was really keen to get it going, quickly finished off the oil cooler, did some final checks........

Its ready.........

So I disconnected the fuel supply and dizzy, removed the spark plugs and cranked it over for about a minute to get oil circulating with as little stress on the engine as possible. It surprising how easy an engine spins with no compression.

Once done, back on with the fuel and electrics and time for the moment of truth............

Image

After about 10 seconds cranking it started, immediately followed by a loud hissing noise, so I shut it down immediately, seemed like the oil cooler AN fittings had crapped out on me and oil was squirting all over. Plusses and minusses.

So I had a spare Mocal oil cooler in the garage, but needed some other bits to make it fit as it didnt have ports to feed the oil pressure sensor or turbo supply.

Image

So it was then a 2 week wait for the new bits..............

So whilst waiting for the postie, other things went on, namely:

I fitted a 5th gen cruise control unit in the engine bay where Honda never intended one the be, made possible by the 90 degree battery rotation.

I spruced up the chepo ebay strut brace that I've had for a decade.

I removed the old stereo until as it was a double din and I needed the space for some gauges.

I also removed all the amps and wiring that I had previously installed, now its a simple set of focal components up front fed by the new headunit I bought.

I fitted the extra gauges, Oil pressure, boost pressure and Air Fuel ratio.

Then postie brought the bits and I set to make the new oil cooler stuff fit.

So then onto take 2, I know it starts, but only for 10 seconds or so and I've no idea of fuel pressure, oil pressure or another critical metrics.

I decided to film this time........

Great pic on the bay buddy.
How does that half rad hold up with this turbo setup?
I want to use a half rad on my regular engine and a condenser for the aircon, so was curious if a half rad will do instead of a full rad.
