Re: Jason's Black 5th Gen VTi
I have had a long think, and felt inspired to visit the doors again to see if I can make these speakers fit without any drama.
Well, since I already hacked a bit of the driver's door, I decided to take Ratty's advice and go some more.
The covers still fit well, and there is room for a 18mm spacer so I have ordered a pair from eBay.

Re: Jason's Black 5th Gen VTi
Cheers for the help - and the kick up the bum to get hacking. Me and my mate Gary had another go today.
12mm MDF rings, and cutting a little recess off the actual door skin and my VIBEs are in. Also, took the tweeters apart and glued them to the factory brackets - but i turned the brackets through 180 degrees so they faced me and not the windscreen. LOL. Time was of an essence so did not take too many pics.
Now the speakers are in I will do some sealing work when I get a minute.
Here are some pics.
Gary hacking my door away.
Trial fit
I've got that VIBE
Needs sealing

Re: Jason's Black 5th Gen VTi - 6.5 inch components now in.
Sounds awesome. Subwoofer is also fitted today and I am happy.
Now that everything works, it will all come out for bits to be cleaned and some sound deadening in place.
I am waiting for some side light bulb holders to turn up and I will relocate my sidelights to be next to the front indicators.

good work. very much along the lines of what iv been upto today.
i would advise turning the tweeters round again. just give it a try. you will get a much less coloured sound and wont take your face off in the high transients. the highs will reach you, dont worry. you want them to soften a little in transit and bounce back gives a better stereo image in a car. imho.

Hey all.
I have been modding again. I said weeks earlier that I felt the headight was quite busy (sidelights / dipped and main beams) so I decided to relocate the sidelights to the unused sections in the indicator unit.
Here are some pics.
First drill a suitable hole, then tidy up with a file or craft knife.
Test fit
Random progress
Bullet connectors as they will need to be disconnected when taking the unit out. They can only be wired one way.
It was very sunny but you can make out the light. I used a pair of LED sidelight bulbs
Testing the polarity to make sure positive was yellow and negative was white.
I created a common earth, and tapped individual positive feeds from the sidelight loom. There is red and black - yes you guessed right - red is positive.
Enjoy.

Will nip outside and get a couple of pics. Bit like fitting HIDs in the summer - you never actually get to use them for ages lol.
