just a refurb matey, need to get the rest of the car up to spec before i channel too much money into the engine, should be noticable improvement tho :)

Yep, although this is "just" a refurb rather than any porting work there will be a noticable improvement - don't underestimate what a good head refurb with fresh valve seat and head cuts and a total de-coke can do for both performance and economy.
As an example, if you look at the pic showing the valves you'll see how coked up the exhaust valves are and how little decent seat contact was being made before. This is pretty typical of most H22 heads out there with the mileage that is on them. Intakes are difficult to get shots of the wear on the valve head angle cut but both the intake and exhaust valves not seating as well as they can will cause a gradual loss in absolute compression.

yeh i didnt mean it as 'just' a refurbishment but you know what i mean, im amazed how jobby up it was before and how much like brand new it looks now! youve done a cracking job m8y and thanks again for taking the time to take all those pictures much appreciated! really cant wait to get the lude down to you! it will be 3 months since ive driven anything other than a scabby transit van when its all done :)

LOL, don't worry I didn't take what you said in any bad way.... I was just trying to get across that you don't necessarily need to go all ported and what not to get benefits from head work, a good refurb is a great way of getting the most out of what you have if you know what I mean.
