Fire in the hole!
Nearly lost but not forgotten, I'm back with some news. None of them are too good but there has been some progress made which is probably the only one elevating thing about this entire car restoration project.
First of all, I'm still in the progress of taking the car apart. Every single time I touch something, it either disintegrates, gets stuck, looks like crap, doesn't let go of the bit it's attached to, in the worst cases all at the same time. Like the rear drum brakes for instance. Those have to be binned and replaced with new ones. And the new ones should be the discs from some ready-for-breaking 2G. I found a thread about the brake transplant from 2G to 1G and it looks like a good idea, so I'm going for it. It became clear at a very early stage of the project that the idea of a proper restoration is more of a daydream than a reality, so I might as well improve the car a little where I can.
The engine is still in place, but is has to be lifted and for two reasons right away.:
1. Since the engine has not been fired up for over five years, there are massive amounts of toothpaste-like deposits of what's probably aluminium-oxide in the intake manifold and consequently in the cylinders as well. So I have to pull the thing apart and give it a good cleaning.
2. The engine bay has to be painted and with the engine in it's not possible.
I am going to need a new fuel tank, a complete carburator repair kit, a new electric antenna as the old one has simply been ripped out by those lovely body shop people, the undercoat has to be removed and redone - I found parts where the gooey stuff was sprayed over some old mud, the rear bumper and the two side windows are missing and no one knows where they are. (Windows I do have spares, but the bumper on the donor car looks -eh- like that.) The nearside damper's mounting point under the plastic cap is rusty like efyuseekay, so is the one nut holding it in place and to make things worse, both have been painted very carefully by the bodyshop guys too. There are about fifteen-million other things to be done, these were just a few of the most 'exciting' ones on the list.
I took quite a few pictures since my last post and there are some more still on my phone to be downloaded and resized, but it's Snooker World Champ's semi-finals (C'mon Ronnie!), so they have to wait until Tuesday.

Oooft man! Sounds like you're hanging in there (even with the setbacks). If I see any of the bits you're after I'll give you a shout.

Welcome along to the club. Sounds like a good project you've got there, will be worth it in the end that's for sure.
We don't have any 1st gen owners on the club, myself and Nathan are the closest thing to 2nd gen owners with our 3rd gen Accords, and there's a handful of people on here with 3rd gens too. Majority are 4th and 5th gens however.
