Hi everyone, what do you make of this?

Post by jpjsavage » Mon Sep 17, 2012 4:32 pm

Hi everyone,

Newbie here considering a Honda Prelude purchase. I've had an 08 Civic Type R and a much older (1994 I think) Civic too and love the Honda brand.

This is the car I've been to see today:

http://www.greenwingmotors.co.uk/honda- ... re-2319886

I'd welcome some feedback on it. I saw it today in a relatively untidy state. There are a number of things that are going to be done prior to any potential purchase, including some body work stuff, wheels sorted, etc. The paint does seem a bit faded in places but I've heard that is often the case with the red? Is that right? 53k miles, 4 owners (two from the same family) and a good history including whole new exhaust and cat a few months ago.

Price wise - seems top end to me but perhaps some wriggle room?

Advice welcome. Cheers,

Jonathan

For £2.5k, there are better examples out there and also do you have to have an auto?? Manual is much better and faster. :D

Welcome to LG. 8-)

I agree with Nitwit. For £2.5K you can get better than the example in those pics (A type-S on Pistonheads for £2.5K). It would be hard to tell though untill pics or a detailed rundown of what its being done to the car before the sale. Plus only if you absolutely need an auto get one.

If you need it here is an overview of 5G models available to buy 2nd hand in the UK http://www.ludegeneration.co.uk/honda-p ... -t720.html

The problem with finding another Lude you like is its location :x

This came up the other day, its a bit on the expensive side but you wont find a fresher Prelude anywhere ;)

"5th Gen Autos" and "Barge pole" are often in the same sentence ;)

As Nitin and Merlin said, unless you really need auto I wouldn't bother, certainly unless there was a proven service history involving the gearbox!

That prelude is at least £1000 overpriced.

As the others said, go for a manual as its obviously a better drive and has a quicker 0-60 time. If £2500 is your budget, that will get you an mint 99+ manual, an SiR or maybe even a type s.

Thanks for all the advice guys. I appreciate the comments re manual against auto. It hadn't bothered me that much given that I haven't got time to travel far to look at other examples and this came up in a local garage. Clearly, that's not a good enough reason to buy it! If the auto is a dud then I will steer clear and consider other options.

I have found out that this one has had the cambelt done at 39k. I think the is also a respray option if the ticket price is paid? Not sure if this helps. The red does look a bit faded in places and both bumpers needed it definitely.

From what you are saying, this price is top whack so the car should be mint for that money? Oh, and get a manual!

Horrible gearbox and way overpriced. I was going to link a silver 2000 manual VTI on Autotrader with 55k for £1800 but it's obviously sold within the last 48 hours

5th gen autobox is as much use as a chocolate fireguard. You would be well advised to avoid it.
