It will be 4ws don't bother with the auto/ triptronic preludes, slow 0-60 time and they boxes aren't that reliable.
Go for a manual.

It's not a case of bothering with one, my OH wants a happy coupe and this came along very cheaply. It'll do for a while, plus auto is preferred over manual for us.rob quilter wrote:It will be 4ws don't bother with the auto/ triptronic preludes, slow 0-60 time and they boxes aren't that reliable.

^^ I do.Animal Mother wrote:Well, I've had confirmation of what model it is. It's a 1997 2.2 vti Auto (tiptronic type). The current owner states that it's a 2ws version and wikipedia says that 2ws was available on this model, so I don't doubt his claims.
Anyhow, I'll post an update with pics once we've picked it up.
If its a UK car I would be very suspicious. All UK 2.2's came with 4WS from the factory. The seller may state that its 2WS but what they really mean is that the 4WS is faulty and the 4WS bulb has been removed from the dash. Request pics of the rear underside of the car to see if the 4WS motor is still in place.
If the 4WS motor is still in place its a risk buying it IMO. If you do buy it get a significant discount as it could be a couple of hundred to fix, or a simple reset may be required. If the 4WS motor is present, the 4WS bulb is not illumintated when the ignition is @ postion I, and the seller says all of this "is fine", dont take any of this bullshit.
Also check the stamped plate under the bonnet if it says BB8 it should have 4WS.
