That's the one.

The front of the engine is the exhaust, the intake is at the back.

You shouldn't really need to remove anything to get at the service connector, should just be able to find it by getting your head right in by the pedals, with a torch.

EDIT:
Worst comes the worst though, if you undo all the screws on either side of the front half of the centre console (the bit round the gearlever/radio) you should be able to lift the back end of it up easily and that moves the cover backwards enough to uncover where the connector is a bit better, without going to the full effort of removing the centre console.

That is the data connetor. In the 4th gen the service connector is a right bugger to get to. Unless someone has got to it before it is attaced via plastic stud to one of the metal bars directly under the stereo. It's a right PITA to get to.

Ah! so a little more hunting is in order then i guess to find this connector

Went and got some more oil today, cleaned up the engine up and gave her a run. took a couple of seconds to turn over but did start - What casual rpm should i idle at? left the car running for 5 mins no appreciable oil seemed to be coming from anywhere, so i gave it a bit of a run up and down the road to get the engine temp up and simulate driving load. pulled back in and yep, looks like oils coming from the edges of the rocker cover (one near the oil cooler more than others, explained why that area was soaked after the return home after buying!)

So what am i looking to get that sorted out?

Strangely, no engine light came on as i was driving it about this time. bizzare.

uneven idling problem kicked in after i had driven it down the street, temp was rising above half and when i tried putting the internal heaters on, nope, nothing happening. So has anyone got a link to topping up/bleeding the coolant system? :) And how sensitive are the preludes in terms of the level of coolant they have in them? - current level is about 10/12cm below the top

any idea why at time the engine feels like its 'choking' at low rpm? i want to blame this stupid backbox but are there any other potential causes?

The idling/choking problem is almost certainly linked to the low coolant (there have been a couple of threads fully detailing that in the last couple of weeks and how to top up - I'll post links in a mo.

The engine fault light might have been vtec fault due to low oil level/pressure? (anyone else think that sounds plausible?)
The fault code reading will tell you, either way.

4 x Spark Plug Seals 12342-PT2-000 £12.70
Rocker Cover Gasket 12341-P13-000 £16.84
Liquid Gasket approx £5 (eBay).

The Honda prices were from a couple of years ago. Possibly a bit more now.

It's important to torque the rocker cover bolts evenly when refitting.

And not over-tighten - that's a really light torque (my torque wrench doesn't even go that low I think - 10lbft from memory)
