Evening, been lurking for a while as my wife has had a 5g 2.0 for the last 3 years and I've kind of joined her by getting a 5g 2.2 auto to run around in for the next 6 months (having an op on my leg in a couple of weeks and need an auto to run around in). Current stable is the 2 5g's, an S14a, Saab 9-3 diseasel and a fireblade. Prior to the 200sx I had a dc2 which I loved, but it succumbed to rust and had to go.
I'll pop some pictures up when I get a chance, but now I'm going to make the rookie mistake and ask for help in my first post! I bought the 2.2 on the strength of it's engine as the bodywork isn't the best and the plan next year is to transfer the engine and all the good bits to my wife's car once I've finished with it and can start using a manual again. The issue I have is the auto gearbox. No issues with it on the test drive, no issues on the 150 mile trip home, but last week it intermittently wouldn't change gear (slipping and revving very high then engaging) and when it did, it was really jerky. I followed the guides on here and changed the oil in the gearbox and cleaned the solenoids and that did the trick for a couple of days, but today, I lost all gears except reverse. I'm thinking it's definitely new gearbox time now (as I cannot afford to get this one rebuilt) and was wondering if someone could tell me which other Honda auto gearboxes (if any) will fit.
Thanks for looking through this and any help will be gratefully received.
Toby

Welcome!

Unfortunately the 5g auto box is a known weakness. Unsure of if any others will fit, or you might just have to bite the bullet and get one from another 5g and hope it's a good one.

Went through the gears while parked (found that useful bit in the tech pages) and it all seemed good for a couple of days, but now it's worse than its ever been. I've popped a wanted ad up so will hope that I can get one soon. Been trying to convince my mrs to get a 2.2 for ages, but she won't get rid of her car for one so this was my idea of a compromise (she keeps her car with all the good bits from the new one - minus the annoying gearbox!).

It'll hopefully get sorted soon (provided I can source another box), if not, I've seen an auto 3g that I quite like and engine transfer will be happening a lot sooner than planned!
Quick question, will the auto box from a 2.0 5g work?

Another Norwich Luder 8-)

As said the autobox is a bit feeble, unless well looked after. Some Accord boxes fit but as merc said not sure what's what on the ECU front.

AFAIK the boxes on the F20's will fit H22. Someone else might want to confirm this though.
