Newish member.. Restoring my lude.

Post by vtecred » Thu Apr 13, 2017 6:40 pm

Hey all.

I'm thinking of restoring my lude which has been lying on my driveway for roughly 2 years.

My gearbox doesn't select gears and my my door handle internally doesn't open my door I'm off to a great start..

What engine work should I consider apart from normal servicing??

I don't wanna send this car to the scrap worth too much (red top motegi with genuine bonnet spoiler)

Feel free to move this post admin as I was wondering where I should post this

Thanks to everyone in advance for their input

get some pics up of her bud 8-)

gearbox not selecting gears could be lack of/no fluid, or selector cables rusted/loose - may not be the box or clutch

door handle - simply take off the door card and takea look, probably a broken plastic part or similar - usually an easy fix with a replacement pat from a breaker

get her serviced in the normal way - oil, oil filter, fuel filter, check and clean/replace air filter if dirty, then start her up! your brakes maybe seized, may need new disks or similar.

Hopping on this thread because we're in the same boat... I bought mine a few weeks ago and found a mountain of issues/concerns, the main one being some household wiring going from the starter motor to what I can only imagine is the ignition for some sort of bypassing!
I'm estimating about £2-3k going into her :(Image

Set your goals first,, what do you want? A minter for life? Something for the next few years? Standard? Modified?

I started mine with no specific goals, probably why I'm still at it eight years down the road.

Do you know when the cambelt was last changed?

I'd get the underneath checked too for worn bushes, anything that may pop up on the next MOT.

Then run her for a bit, see if there's any issues you can feel or hear.
