Hello
We've had our third gen car (named Gregor) for a few years now and love it to pieces but spares for it are getting almost as rare as rocking horse manure. If anyone has any tips I would be grateful and if anyone out there knows anything about over sized clutch plates, you can go the top of my Christmas Card list !! Cheers x

Hi and welcome. Great to have another 3rd gen owner join up.
Some spares for 3rd gens are indeed getting a bit difficult to source...
When you say oversize clutch plate... What do you mean?
The driven plate?
Is this because of excessive wear to the flywheel and/or pressure plate causing it to slip?
A new clutch should come with the pressure plate, so that shouldn't be an issue tbf and extreme wear the flywheel is very unusual! Are you sure that's the problem?

Thanks for all of your replies. Wurlycorner- I need a new clutch kit and have searched high and low - bought a generic kit with the measurements 212 & 215mm cover plate which all web sites (and Honda) say are the correct dimensions and turn out to be too freaking small! My clutch plate cover is 216mm so the new one is way too small. I never realised how much of a difference 10mm could make! Any idea if this is common for 3rd gen or just ours? We have a 2.0 EX, 2WD 1989 and everything seems to point to the 215mm being correct but it's really not. I now have a stranded beloved car with no clutch

Any help really gratefully received. Oh, and we need a new flywheel but that's another story

Welcome to LG
Can you see the sticker on the gearbox which has the gearbox model number on it - this would be all the info you need to get the right size/fit of pressure plate.
Might also be an idea to look for the vin code and engine code. Vin code should be stamped into the firewall or on a plaque in the engine bay.

Thanks vanzep, I appreciate your help.
I have used both the engine code and VIN number when researching and ordering the clutch. Still can't get a 216mm diameter clutch to come up on any searches as they all say it should be 215. I can only assume the clutch on there was a replacement (?) so now I am trying to find someone to fabricate one for me but I need to keep costs low as I have other work to do on the car and funds are tight....as they always are! Thanks again as I appreciate all help and advice x

yeah thats a total pain.
on 4th gens and 5th gens you can upgrade to the Honda ATR clutch kit but no idea what sizes are for 3rd gens - there was something in the wiki about clutch sizes...dont know where that info has gone
it might be worth taking the parts off the car and look for part numbers or manufacturers marks on them other than that i dont know what to suggest
hope you get it sorted as 3rd gens are a scarce sight on the roads these days

The 3rd gen I had was a 1991, and I ended up having to use a friction plate from a 4th gen in the end. Was a long and confusing journey though.

Pretty sure they are 215mm.
If in doubt always use the USA sites. B20a3 and b20a4 are basically the same engines USA a3 and UK a4. When I had my 3rd gens I got everything from the usa. Much easier to source parts as they are mega popular over there.
