Hi ATR84, totally agree. The cheaper end will require a lot more work in the long term. Iv spotted this example recently listed, pricey yes and maybe a tad unrealistic, but ideally that’s the type of car you want to start of with if you are going to sink more money into it and keep it long term.

Yeah I spotted this one. If it was 3 grand I would jump on it and use it as my daily :D

I can't see it selling for what he wants, but you never know.

Have a question for you guys - manual or auto? I had the manual before and totally get dropping a gear to get the vtec kick- with an auto would the vtec kick in later as gears move up quicker?

Or just a case of smashing your foot down? In two minds, all my other cars are auto which I now prefer, but feel this would be best suited to a manual?

Thanks

Manual for sure, I think the auto's only have 4 gears. You will still get the vtec kick though, my choice would always be manual for this kind of car. Maybe have a drive in both to see what you prefer?

I’ve only driven a 5th gen auto not a 4g so I couldn’t say for sure but only having 4 gears in the auto seemed to drag the revs out due to the lower ratios making it feel slow compared to my manual 4g, but then my car is probably much lighter and has JDM h22a where as the 5g was an Audm h22zx... if you want comfort, good looks, luxury(ish) cruising on the motorway go auto... if you are a keen driver and like to give the car a good thrash go manual, just more fun...

Hi and welcome!

Auto vtec 4th gens are rare as - I can literally remember only a handful appearing for sale in the last 5 years, so if that's the criteria, you'll pretty much have to buy whatever you see and deal with the condition/missing bodykit, or import one yourself (if you can even find one in Japan) or you'll be looking forever.

The brittany green one listed above by Drax did also have a lot of the rare extra's (DSP system and green interior - which is uber rare)

The auto's do indeed only have 4 gears.
It makes no difference to when vtec kicks in - will come in at the same point.
It's entirely up to you what you prefer between manual/auto tbh - if you prefer auto, then that's what you should go for.

That silver uk spec 4g is in fantastic condition (albeit awful wheels). He's asking absolutely top whack too- nice as it would be, that's a tall order for a 4g (it's nice 3g money)
