Hey all and a question :)
Hello everyone i've been on here a few weeks but haven't done one of these yet, I own a 5th gen 1998 2.2 prelude and I love it and I am in the middle of upgrading it atm
but I have come across a problem I ordered and tried to fit one of these http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAPSPEED-HOND ... 256e1fdec6 and my mechanic showed me that it is about 4-5 inches too short on the down pipe so there is a gap between my down pipe and decat but then upon looking at the 4th gen manifold and down pipe http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAPSPEED-HOND ... 231abeb6fe the down pipe is longer so looks like it should fit? Anyone heard of this before? Thanks.

that is really strange
apart from a8 and type-s all the other mani and downpipes fit all and are the same
the ukdm cat is longer than the jdm cat so i am wondering if someone may have fitted a jdm cat to your lude at some point resulting in your gap
if your cat is short and stubby you have the wrong cat

Just get your mechanic to make up a piece of pipe to bridge the gap, & weld it @Therealjj91. Or maybe @106pete can help? He does decat pipes.
Just a thought..

Just a thought..

Hey guys thanks for your replies and well this is the decat that's on my car now http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Honda-Prelude ... 4d0912198a and I measured this against the original cat and they are the same and yeah I asked him about that and he said he couldn't weld against stainless cause apparently that's really hard? And Japspeed are looking into it for me and said that I might need the 4th gen Si down pipe but yeah it's really weird

If you look again at the two pics yeah the length of the downpipes might be different but look at the position of the bracket that bolts to the chassis.Therealjj91 wrote:upon looking at the 4th gen manifold and down pipe http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/JAPSPEED-HOND ... 231abeb6fe the down pipe is longer so looks like it should fit? I had the same Japspeed manifold and down pipe on my old 97 and it fit fine. Is there any evidence of an after market mid section and back box?

Yeah I've got a cat back straight through system and decat and yeah but he weird thing was the 'original' down pipe didn't have a bracket that mounted to the chassis at all and my mechanic said if he were to fit the dodgy down pipe that the bracket was in the way and he would have to machine it off. And ah right cool how was it for noise and performance did you notice anything? Thanks.

Just an update I've been going back and forth with Japspeed and they said the 4th gen wouldn't fit cause apparently the flanges on the manifold are different and wouldn't line up to my engine block and they said they would give me a full refund if I sent the item back but I was pretty gutted cause I didn't know if I would be able to find a manifold that would fit my weird car but luckily a local exhaust guy said he'd be able to cut the pipe and weld a section it and make it fit and it's booked in for next Monday but i'd just like to say thanks for all your responses and ideas.

It seems whoever you were speaking to at Japspeed doesn't know what they are on about. All H22's have the same bolt pattern.Therealjj91 wrote:they said the 4th gen wouldn't fit cause apparently the flanges on the manifold are different and wouldn't line up to my engine block
It's widely thought as just an OEM copy made of SS.Therealjj91 wrote:And ah right cool how was it for noise and performance did you notice anything? Thanks.
