5th Gen - Water leak in boot mystery!!

Have had water collecting under spare wheel when for some time, so removed drain plugs which at least have prevented build up of water.

Needed to work out if water was coming in whilst driving or when car was static. A new boot lid seal is £100.00!!!

So its raining today and I opened boot and removed spare wheel. Lo and behold water is coming in through what appears to be a metal cap about 2cm wide just above where spare wheel sits. I don't understand how that is, as car is static, so where does that metal cap lead to??

Help!

Pete

On my accord type r it used to come in through the rear light seals, pull some of the carpet back in that area, pour some water over the boot and you should be able to see where it is coming in from. I have not had it on my Prelude but then it lives in the garage.

Ok, thanks guys.

Have traced leak to base of rear panel and suspected rear lights or boot seals.

However removed rubber boot seal from rear lip of boot and found ----rust! and what looks like perforations in the metal which could be allowing water in.

Need to explore further and will upload pics for ideas about how best to deal with. I cant be the first one with this problem.

The seam sealer goes porous up next to the lower corners of the rear screen. That will be where the water is coming in above wheel well.

Reviving this thread as I am the new owner of PreludePete's car, and this is still a big problem. After vigorous tests and inspections, it's absolutey not the light gaskets or sunroof drains, so my next port of call is the rubber boot seal. It looks to be fairly new, but there is a split in it along the back edge where it seems to have been pinched by the boot lid in some way, so I'd like to replace it. Only problem is I can't find them for sale anywhere! Could someone please provide a link?

My boot leaks. My drive is on a slope. If I park with the car facing down the slope the water puddles on the area between the boot and rear window and leaks into the boot over the seal. So I park.the other way to the water drains down the rear light area.
Rear light gaskets are new and pu adhesive to give extra seal.
A new seal gasket can be bought from Honda is £105.72 p/n 74865-S30-010

Thanks for the link! Pricey, but it's all I can think of. My car is always parked perfectly level both at work and home, so not sure this will fix it, but I've run out of places to look lol.
