 And its evidently starting to annoy you :P

I've got into the habit of reading the manual section over and over and over until I could do it blindfolded (and ask questions if something isn't clear!) and look at the area on the car as much as possible before getting stuck in.

Oh I'm not saying it doesn't usually come to that, but BEFORE I start working it's all clear in my head  Nothing worse than getting somewhere and having to come inside with greasy dirty hands to read the manual

Volvo did that to me last night. I went to change the rear strut top mounts, a simple job that can be done from inside the car and involves two bolts and the use of a 12mm socket. First bolt sheared, the second started turning freely as the captive nut detached from underneath the car - that resulted in a long time with a hacksaw blade with one end wrapped in gaffer tape. The one that sheared I tried pliers on, then mole grips, then got really hacked off and punched it through using a mash hammer. I felt better after that.

Net result was I ended up spending 2 hours on a 20 min job, and ended up under the car anyway as I had to find some bolts and washers and fit them minus the captive nuts. GAH!
