i saw recently where a leak in the footwell was traced to the heater matrix pipe - we only found this when we took the dash out - the leak was into the passenger footwell but looking at the pipes it could leak to either side - they sit right behind the centre of the dashboard - you might be able to reach up into there and check for moisture :)
my moneys on that cause i cant believe youd allow bad seals or anything else on your lude ;)

This ^^^especially if you have swapped the engine out the brass pipes that go into the matrix are very soft and can deform

Right good call. I'll check tomorrow.
Going to need many dehumidifiers and my infra red heat lamps to dry it all out.

^^ Yeah of curry.

I assume Vanzep was talking about my 4G. It was hard to trace untill we got the dash out. The only thing that made me do that in the first place was the coolant smell in the car. My other major leak is in the windscreen surround. If its swimming in water the drip might be easy to spot then its raining.

The other thing about the heater pipes is that they are almost impossible to get to as the copper pipes are fixed to the heater matrix. To get the unit out you need to unbolt it from the engine bay side and unplug the heater hoses. Then the unit will come out so you can inspect it.

TBH if it leaks even when its not in use I'd look at an actual water leak from the body of the car.
