Door not opening from inside.
Door not opening from inside.
Hi Guys.
My drivers door won't open from the inside, it works fine from the outside though.
It's been getting steadilly worse over the past couple of months so it seems something is gummed up or needs greasing.
Is there an easy way to grease the mechanism without taking the doorcard off?

Clearly your car loves you and doesn't want you to leave. And no, doorcard off I'm afraid.

Getting a 5th gen door card off is a bit of a ball ache first time round, you need to remove the interior wing mirror trim, remove the speaker from the door, unhook the inner handle rod, and disconnect the wiring for the window/mirror switches and courtesy light before the door card comes off. I would study the service manual before trying to take it off. The manual also shows the location of all the door card poppers so you can precisely prize the door card off
Also make sure you wind the window down before you try and take the door card off otherwise it will be near impossible. You might need to plug the window switch back in to wind it up while the door card is off so you can get access to the handle mechanisms.

The problem will probably be the little clip that the door rod goes into
To check this simply remove the screw where the chrome interior handle is, disengage from door trim and have a look to see if the rod is still connected.
If its not this then as said before you'll need to remove the full door trim to investigate.

I don't think it's this, it sometimes works.NCCMUR wrote:The problem will probably be the little clip that the door rod goes into

Best way to describe it is like a toilet that wont flush.......a couple of pumps of the handle and it sometimes works.

Been a while, but I think I managed to slide it under the mirror trim & I'm unsure about the speaker (KFC-1666s).Merlin wrote:Getting a 5th gen door card off is a bit of a ball ache first time round, you need to remove the interior wing mirror trim, remove the speaker from the door, unhook the inner handle rod, and disconnect the wiring for the window/mirror switches and courtesy light before the door card comes off. But at this time of year, you may well break some of the clips as they get brittle in the cold.
Actually. if you can unprise the rear edge clips (lose the screws) and peel back the weather membrane, you might be able to spray with WD40 & hope that works until the weather improves.

was gonna say the plastic clip, they break so remove the handle carefully
dont pull it out too far, till you remove the clip connected to the rod
