MAAAD Miata

I went to buy a Miata mx5 for skids and because the lude won't past next MOT (no she won't die, just major surgery).
The car is an California import with 88k Miles of experience, the car is in pretty good condition apart from some needed maintenance and poor lacquer; red became pink and the clear-coat is coming loose / cracking or "classic california red" as I like to call it.
This will be my fun car so will be packed with JDM styling (roller paint job and tyrap fixes after a drift fail) and with time a turbo :D
So how I bought it:

Spots like that ar spread al over the car.

so first things first, attacking the paint with sandpaper and primer:

Oh and the first cheap and awesome mod:

Oh you dirty boy

Supercharge it rather than turbo imho. these came out all ready for a bolt on charger but mazda pulled the plug at the last minute. You are going to have to rev the tits off it apparently, and have your balls in your hand to drift them effectivly.

Good fun to rat though and a good summer beater. 8-)

Haha 1.6....
But yeah, with a turbo it is drift-able and stock with an LSD it's only just drift-able :geek:
And I get the supercharger thing but I've driven a small car with choo choo's recently and I absolutely loved it
I already managed to end up backwards after a failed drift due to the current tyres wich have an extremely soft wall (at least that's my best bet). It was a nice drift I just wasn't able to regain control afterwards, the car swayed back the other way and I ended up in an progressively worsening zig/zag untill I slammed the breaks to stop it and spun around.

Jan spun his MX5 twice on a very wet Ring lap last week. No damage, thankfully.

And if they can spin, they can drift, surely? You're right, Fons; the LSD is a bit of an issue. Have you tried putting some more air in the tyres?

 why does that sound familiar?

Another reason to choo-choo the mx-5 rather than supercharge it, is there is a full video 'how to' on MCM :D

(does anyone know where the drokk that choo-choo expression even comes from btw?! :? I'd never even heard it until I watched that episode of MCM!)

@Sailor I think it would be better with an LSD , I'm currently driving with an open diff. Real struggle to put the lack of power on the road too.

@wurlycorner MCM is grant!! :D
I believe the choo-choo expression comes from the sound a turbo makes when it releases pressure true the turbo it self when stepping of the throttle. Moog loves to imitate that sound

And if they can hokeykokey they can Ballet, surely?

And if they can kick they can worldcup, surely?

And if they can trifle they can souffle, surely?

Get the idea :D

To drift a 1.6 mx you need to be carrying enough speed into the corner to maintain the drift and not let it turn into a spin or more likely just fizzle out. You need speed as you have no powerz or torquez to achieve this. This means you have to enter a corner at a speed that would normally make you think twice and then, on purpose, take it past the edge of normal control.

You can drift a 1.6 for sure but you need to tighten the drokk out of everything chassis and suspension, drop it to the floor, rev the living tits off it and kiss your arse goodbye

LSD will be better but to make it work you'll need a welder really.

Completely agree with you, but what can I say, I like a challenge

And all the mods you just named where on the long term to do list except for the welded diff, I want to be able to drive around a roundabout in a normal manner
