A few pics of the jalopy. 2.0 Hdi (110bhp version, with no particulate filter), MOT'd till Sept.

The mark 1 C5 is not a looker from the front...

It needs a clean but the interior is in great nick really;

Massive boot, complete with boot liner

Typical modern engine bay, covered with plastic crap everywhere, but in good nick and know when the cambelt was last done;

Tiny dent in the offside wing (not damaged the paint, so should just pop out :D )

It will need new front tyres in the not too distant

It also needs needs this cap replacing. Bloody annoying someone has left it missing, because loads of crap had got into the system and blocked up the jets good and proper... Have flushed loads of hot water through the system to clean it and all ok now, except one jet seems to be a proper gonner :roll:

Last service was at a Citroen specialist and had all new front pads and discs.
It also has a new exhaust.

Not bad for a car that's done 155k and only cost £650 :D A lot of car for not much money and it will do the job it was bought to do, admirably (tow my trailer to move cars and stuff about ;) )

Looks good matey, I regret getting rid of my Xsara HDi sometimes. They make good workhorses 8-)

What is it plated to tow?

That's more than I expected!

I don't know why, but I've always really fancied a 2.2 HDi one of these... I actually quite like the front of the C5, and I think the wagon has a much better arse than the saloon. It came a long way from the Xsara - what were they thinking when they face lifted that :puke:

The mark2 and 3 C5's look fantastic I reckon, just not a massive fan of the front of the Mk 1.

It's the hydraulic suspension that ups the tow capability ;)

The 2.2HDi is reckoned to be less reliable than the 2.0. Nothing major wrong with the engine, just annoying things like the fuel pump and particulate filter I think. I'm sure the extra grunt would be welcome though :D

Trip to the local scrapyard last weekend yielded a choice of 5 breakers to pick bits from, so I could sort out a few niggles with it.
Washer bottle cap replaced;

Manked up gear gaitor and damaged gear knob;

Replaced

Missing parcel shelf/load bay cover replaced;

Full set of original dealer mats (they're a bit meh and I want to find some genuine citroen ones, but at least I'm no longer drokking up the carpet)

Also picked up a set of clocks so I can fix the speedo/tacho and the bits I need in order to fit cruise control.

All for £40. Bargain! :D

Sorted a few more of the little niggles today (laziness as to why I didn't the other day really, 'cause it took all of ten mins :lol: )
Bulbs replaced in the central display, so it's now readable in the dark :D

Clocks swapped, so I now have a working speedo and tacho;

But more importantly, I also now have a battery volts meter and oil temp :rock: 8-) :twisted:

No loss of mileage, so presumably the main odo is stored on the ECU rather than the clocks.
The trip odo was wrong though, but no big deal (it was only on 0.2 anyway :lol: )

In the process I have lost the indicator lights that tell you what suspension height the car is on (these new clocks came out of a higher spec saloon that had the suspension height on the central display instead of lights in the dash). So next weekend, I plan on heading back to the scrappies to see if swapping in the high spec digital display works... If not, it would mean either living without (mr MOT man might not like that?) or cannibalising the clocks between each other. I WANT my battery volts meter and oil temp :twisted: :lol:

They don't put volt gauges and oil temp gauges in cars often enough imo. They're really useful readouts to have. Good work :)

They don't out enough gauges in cars generally, I think. Sorry, I'm just tacky like that.
