So sadly the Mrs Peugeot 206 has had it. Rotten underneath, and now the rear axle has died. To be fair, it cost us £800 over 7 years ago, and has only ever needed tyres, brakes, and LCA's (206's eat these).

Anyway, we needed a replacement quickly, so after a scout around, I bought this for the princely sum of £200

She's a 2000 Rover 45 Connoisseur with the 2.0TD engine. Back in 2000 it arrived loaded, but time and careless owners mean it currently has knackered aircon, the sunroof is jammed shut (but thankfully doesn't leak), and the boot lock is seized.

It came with MOT till end of November, but had a fuel leak, and was really sluggish. Have since replaced the fuel tank (ebay is great) and fitted a new MAF, and it now pulls like a train (while sounding like a ... train).

So much of the innards are Honda, I've been able to replace a lot of trim clips, switches and bulbs with spares I had for the lude (I hate blown dash bulbs).

It gives 52mpg and is super comfy - so atm, I'm counting it as a win  Lets see if I'm still smiling in a month 8-)

Proper load of car for the money tbf. Bet it's quite a nice drive tbh?
No idea what that disiesel engine is like though.

It's super supple ride wise, really soaks up the crappy road surfaces. The derv lump is a bit agricultural, but pulls really well now the MAF isn't gubbed. It's a later evolution of the L Series engine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rover_L-Series_engine).

Spend the last week fixing a few rattles, replacing missing trim etc. Also swapped the leak-off piping for new hose that hasn't turned to biscuit! But yes, so far, so good :)

Well, he's dead Jim. Another Rover off to the great scrapyard in the sky. Served the desired purpose though, and can't complain at £200!

Cheerio Willis!

You're right - it's not as comfy, and to be honest I never thought I'd buy one, but ended up getting the Mrs a 2006 Merc A-Class, the 2.0 job in Avantgarde trim. It's a surprisingly nice wee motor! The Mk2 was a ground up start again after the first A class was such a disaster, but still didn't sell well due to the bad rep of the Mk1, so was a 2nd hand bargain :D
