The wife's .........Daewoo Matiz!

Post by Kawa » Sun Mar 06, 2011 4:42 pm

The wife bought a Daewoo Matiz for a cheap run about - saving £200 a year insurance and 40+ mpg!
Picked it up from Hull about 6 months ago.

It's started drinking water and fans never got hot. Investigating found the expansion bottle a nice brown colour, yum.

So today it's off with it's head!! Also replacing the cam belt and water pump while I'm there - All going well....so far :P

Oops! Ah well, learning from experience is good

They're meant to be great as a cheap and cheerful runabout for city driving, although from being in one I wouldn't want to be doing any motorway driving :?

Motorways are fine, I had a 'good speed' out of it.

The body roll around corners is scary!!! :D Country lanes, roundabouts and generally going around any corner can be quite fun. I had a look around, they have front ARB's and even an upper strut brace!! Not had a look around the rear yet.

Any cars that are non-performance and have strut braces as standard worry me :P What have they done to the chassis that it would require that

Saying that, sounds like you've had a good bit of fun in it 8-)

Yea, the little 3 bangers are good. I had a 3 banger for a while, and my mum's had a 4 banger from new in '05 too and as a city car they're great.

This is my old 3 banger one. Notice anything about the rear quarter?

Tonight a flushed out the cooling system. There was lumps coming out  The water jacket in the head was clogged up with an oily soil type substance - nice! The water was coming out brown for a very long time. The heater matrix was very bad. Not surprised the heater was barely working.

Piston tops have been polished and new water pump has gone on.

Can't do anymore as I'm busy doing other stuff until next week - including beer! :D
