Vinyl Wrapping Interior Parts

Just a quick 'how to' on wrapping interior trims, technique is pretty similar on body panels, just on a larger scale. The 2 items I wrapped here are the stereo and centre console surrounds.

Items needed:

1. Your desired wrap - I used a 3M '3D' carbon fibre wrap, its not just printed onto a sheet, it actually has texture and feel to it. Looks great.
2. Heatgun
3. A Stanley knife or arts and craft knife
4. Foam edge squeegy
5. Ruler
6. Pen/pencil
7. Scissors
8. Patience

***Make sure the trim to be wrapped is washed and completely clean and dry. And when using the heatgun, don't over heat the vinyl as it will melt***

I started with my stereo surround first...

Image

Obviously I started by cutting the vinyl to size, peel the backing off and stick the surround down.

Image

Image

Using the squeegy stick the vinyl to all the flat areas making sure you force all the air bubbles out, then for the corners and curves gently heat the vinyl - this increases the flex of the vinyl and allows it to 'mould' around any curves.

Trim the edges and wrap around the back of the surround.

Next, trim the holes for the centre sections of the surround...

Image

Heat the corners and squeegy around the insides, heat the whole trim once done, this makes the adhesive go a bit stickier and once cooled gives more secure fit. Done!

Next I tackled the centre console surround. Remove the whole centre console from the car...

Image

Flip it over, and the screws attaching the surround to the centre console are located underneath...

Image

Undo the screws and out pops the surround...

Image

Under the surround you will find the screws to remove the tray in the middle of the surround....

Image

Cut the vinyl to size...

Oakley decided to come and lend a hand...

Image

Same as the stereo surround, peel the backing off the vinyl and stick the trim to it...

Image

Stick all the flat areas down. Again, heat to make the vinyl fit around any curves...

Sliced my thumb on the knife

Plasters FTW!

Image

Dillon also came to help...

Image

Trim and tuck the vinyl behind the trim...

Image

Trim the centre sections out, heat and secure...

Image

Put the centre console back together...

Centre console and stereo surround fitted back into the car...

It's really looking good, those are 3M DiNoc carbon wrapper?
I have the OEM carbon kit from Honda, it's good, but it's for me uncomplete, especially on the center console, the little trap should be covered too.
Now realy problem is too find a vinyl that look like honda OEM carbon parts.
Really nice tutorial, worth re reading, thanks:)

blimy. you can tell you got that stuff half normal price :o nuff cut off?

good skills there rob. looks good.

@deanorth: I think that is 3M 1080 carbon not the di-noc. it pops better and has a slick look. better suited to auto use. You know the OEM honda 'carbon' parts are clear plastic with print on the back yeah? maybe think about finding a wrap you like and covering the lot. i have a mix of real carbon parts, 3M wrapped parts and all of the honda bits at the moment :? the honda parts look rubbish against the other two :x and will be getting wrapped as soon as i buy some more wrap.
