How to change a Cambelt & Waterpump

unless im blind, there doesn't seem to be a guide on here so here a pretty good one

differences from my own experience of doing cambelt changes from this guide for a 5g, include;

- not having to remove the bumper and headlight
- not having to drain the oil (unless your doing an oil change at the same time, never a bad thing to do)
- keeping the powersteering pump and alternator in place, but certainly disconnecting them for easier access down that side, which also includes not removing the head shield from behind these two.
- unless you need to change the cam seals due to a leak, i would skip this bit too
- the 4g doesn't have crank angle sensors so ignore this bit 4g'ers
- unless you need to change the crank seal due to a leak, i would skip this bit
- this guide fits a manual tensioner, if your re-using the auto tensioner you will need to either buy or make a tool that holds down the tensioner in place once you have compress it into place ready for refitting, how to do this is below;

In order to do the timing belt right you need to get the proper tool to compress the auto tensioner. You have to remove the auto tensioner from the block, then on the bottom of the tensioner there is a small bolt that you have to remove, make sure you hold that end up otherwise you will loose the liquid from inside it. Once you remove that bolt you will see a small flat head screw inside the hole, use a small flat head and back the screw out, as you do this the piston on the tensioner will come up with the screw. if you don't have the tool then you have to come up with some way to hold it in place until you can put it back on. once you have it held in place replace the small bolt and place the tensioner back on the block, you can then release it and it will properly tension your belt. If you do not do this and you put it back on fully extended it will over tension your belt and eventually it will break.

No UK or JDM Prelude has these. It is only the ATR H22a7 that has crank sensors down there ;)

near Wolverhampton , had car off my dad and cambelt was last dome 2004 so it desperately needs it doing

legendary - this is what i needed. Once i have the space after the move the engine is coming out and this is one of the 1st things that will be getting done as i have no idea when it was last done
