I took this other pic:

Look at the rear opening of the headliner, I think the 4th gen trim might tidy the rear up. The front looks better because we used that black rubber trim bit that randomly fell out of the unit.

Hmmmm, I have a 5g unit sat in the garage.

Weighing up which option to go for, didn't realise the full unit fitting was this much work.

If the motor works and the plastic sliders? are not worn out just change the panel. My lifting and sliding parts were knackered otherwise we would not have gone down that route.

A real pain in the a$$ here is to make the inner rear panel to fit properly without leaving holes here and there. That said, I would appreciate if you can post some photos so that I can see how it looks on your car.

just been given a glass roof from a 5th gen today, i plan on just fitting the glass to the original 4th gen sunroof surround/mechanism. is there any issue with what it looks like from the inside using the 5th gen glass as the 4th gen has a liner? anyone just replaced the metal 4th gen with the 5th gen glass only?

Replacing the glass only is much easier and I would personally recommend you do it this way. Full swap is a PITA imo.
Cheers,
Daniel

If your sunroof drive back and forward (mine did not) just change the steel for glass.
BTW Rob I am still awaiting your return to finish off(when you get out of babby mode)

I just changed the glass as I liked the idea of a bit more light into the cabin, but just get the plastic trims either side for a much neater finish. 8-)
