1999 5th gen auto gears question

I have been searching on the net and can’t find the answer, on the gears it’s N = neutral lol R = reverse 1+2 is easy but what is D3 and D4 meaning ?? Is one for pulling off or I dunno lol

D4 is for your general driving d3 if I remember is for steep hills etc basically it's d4 you have 4 gears d3 you have 3 gears if you drive in d4 you have no problems really
