01/11/14 - TrackScotland

Format - 4 hour open pit
Cost - £100
Conditions - Cold and windy but dry

I was one of the of thoses days again

The car seemed fine on the drive up to Knockhill but during my first run out on track I felt the gearbox playing up. I went out another twice to try and diagnose the issue. With Indigolemon in the car we guessed that the 3rd gear Synchro is on its way out

The gearbox doesnt easlily want to go from 2nd->3rd or 3rd->4th at high rpm and it doesnt want to go from 4th->3rd at all at high rpm. Driving at low rpm (below 5.5k) and you dont notice anything, only at high rpm does the box play up. Plus 1st<->2nd and 4th<->5th is fine at any rpm.

my thoughts exactly - seems like very similar issues i had 2 years ago a month before my clutch gave in 2 days before Japfest

It's not the clutch. Below 5.5K all gears engage as normal. I drove the car home from the track and didn't notice anything, only when hooning it does it struggle to go into 2nd/3rd/4th (anything to do with 3rd basically). At high rpm 4th/5th are not affected.

Edit - To stop any guessing from me the gearbox is going off to PAW on a pallet to have the once over. Rich will hopefully work his magic, replace any bits and then ship it back up

Sounds very similar to my old gearbox just removed to be fair.

Are you replacing any gearing with uprated items?

It all depends on Rich's recommendations but I probably get a set of Synchrotech carbon synchros, maybe the Synchrotech Master kit. As for the gears themselves, once again on Rich's recommendation, but at the moment I like the M2F5 ratios with the MFactory final drive.
