VAFC Neo fitted - By the end, I'm not too keen on this unit, or the way I have fitted it. It may be coming back out again next weekend.

Item arrived in the post

The original idea was to split the neo in half, screen on the front and buttons to the side. Unfortunately the circuit board is one piece across the whole unit :(

Facelift Speaker Covers destroyed.

Center piece cut out
Image

The unit squeezes nicely into the oem speaker bracket
Image

A little Carbon Fiber later...
Image

Test fit in the car, to ensure shape has not been distorted
Image

Fiber Glass reinforcement behind old speaker grill
Image

A bit of filler and rub down
Image

First coat of primer and rub down
Image

Several more coats of primer and run down and the paint finish is still crap with a run too! I can't paint for jobby

The finished article...

In the car....
Image

Connected up....and I hate it
Image

Incidentally, the wiring, while all the colours are the same (with the exception of 2 wires) Apexi decided to use an identical connector. However the male and female connectors were the wrong way round, so I had to completely re-wire it.

It's going to be resprayed in satin black next weekend, and if I still hate it, the old one is going back in :? :(

2007 Jul - Engine Swap

fooked engine video

Might be something simple, but it's been knocking since last October  and it seized in traffic (pointing to something perhaps bottom end) we figured rather than spend 2 days stripping it down, we'd spend 2 days swapping it over.

engine bay today has been cleaned down after the engine swap and i've changed the rear silencer back to my old one. the silencer still rattles a bit but it's alot quieter the other one i put on :?

----------------

At the end of june 2007, my engine seized. Fortrunatly I had a spare engine that I brought from Edd 6 months earlier - how is that for forward planning!!

On Order from MrH
Cambelt Tensioner
Flywheel Bolts x8
Clutch Bolts x6
Hub Nuts x2
EGR Gasket (on back order)
Intake gasket
Gearbox Oil - Collect from Honda

On Order from others
Water Pump
Gates Balancer, cam belt, tensioner set
Oil Filter
Air Con bypass belt

Need
Engine Oil

Will need to use existing gearbox mounting bolts.

---------------------------------------

Small update, removed the old engine today. Fitted the new clutch, flywheel, and gearbox to the new engine. swapped the cam covers over and the new engine is fixed into the bay.

3 hours to remove engine start to finish which wasn't too bad so say it's only the second time we've done it.

Spent 5 hours fitting new water pump, cam belt, balancer shaft belt, crank pulley with associated engine timing, swapping the engine looms over, cleaning as much of the EGR system as possible, fooking about with the fuel rail, swapping the intake manifold over, fitting the flywheel, clutch and gearbox, VSS, clutch slave cylinder, starter motor, fixing a broken part of the engine loom (damaged on engine removal) and finally putting the lump back in the engine bay.

BIG THANKS to Si for coming down for weekend to help us out of the jobby, never would of got this far without ya mate 8)

Tomorrow is another day, hopefully the weather will hold out - shhhhhhhh - shouldn't have said anything

2007 - Goodyear EAGLE F1 GS-D3

Goodyear EAGLE F1 GS-D3 215/40 ZR17 - 76 quid a tyre - can't fault that price at all

-----------

Bit of an update - ordered the tyres from mytyres dot scum (ooops sorry dot com) on thursday night, paid in full, expect delivery perhaps tuesday for fitting wednsday.

got home friday night to receive an email, they wanting a fax copy of a bill with my home address on - I can't do this until I'm back on work on monday (today).

because they can not guarantee a delivery date until the order is processed and I dont want to process the order until they guarantee a tuesday delivery (which they can't) I told them to stick it and cancelled the order.

I understand about identity fraud, but there was no warning on the website. I would have done the fax bit, but already wasted 3 days pissing about. They honestly think that sending a bill by fax is proof of who i am? they not heard of Microsoft Word or Photoshop??

Anyways, cut a long story short (too late for that!!) I rang camskill, they near enough matched the price (within 3 quid per tyre) and guaranteed a weds AM delivery - just in time for fitting weds PM - very helpful guys too!!

Ordered from Carl @ Invotec, he had it in stock, so was a next day delivery 8)

Wasn't too inpressed with some of the welding, while it was ok, it was not as neat at the Tsudo or Fujitsubo units.

Image
Image

IMO, some of this welding is appauling for a unit of this cost....although it does do the job and at the end of day - who gonna see it - the welding police?

Image

This unit is part of the new Jasma rating, restricting the noise to 90db. All three silencers are straight through.

Image

The seems of the middle silensers are secure, albeit discoloured........ :?
