Planning on Turboing the H22 but so much to consider!

No, not in the key of C. An H is likely involved though ...

Planning on Turboing the H22 but so much to consider!

Post by Cutz » Sat Apr 12, 2014 4:42 pm

I'm thinking of turboing the H22 but to be honest there's so many choices and different combinations. Everywhere seems to have info but nowhere seems to answer the questions I've got...

the details: My JDM H22 has been fully resealed and rebuilt @ 100,000miles, running Apexi Power FC and tuned to approx 215bhp at present. Light flywheel, stage 1 clutch, cold-air intake, Hondata thermal intake gasket, SolidFab full 2.5" stainless system, power steering pump removed & swapped to the Toyota MR-S electric P/S pump. I will obviously uprate injectors, fuel rail, fuel pressure regulator and fuel pump as necessary.

I'm currently looking at Kinugawa Turbochargers, people have really good things to say about them plus they're well priced and have water AND oil cooling along with rollerball bearings.

I'm after no more than 8psi (i'll be running @ 6-7psi daily max)
I'm looking for a nice 260-270bhp to keep her reliable

1. Since it's only low boost is there any reason I can't use an internally wastegated turbo?
2. Can anyone help me nail down the specs of the turbo I should be looking for?

Hopefully some of the old skool pro's can step in to slap me up with the answers!

i've had a peek on the yank forums but most of the guys on there are just arrogant know-it-all pricks (suprise suprise for the yanks).

i'd much rather hear from the UK crew ;-)

yeah I know what you're saying mate, there isn't much solid H22 turbo info in one place.

To be honest I just want to size the turbo correctly but there's so many calculations to work out :-/
