Diameter will affect gas velocity, mandrel bends again will affect gas flow. Then you have materials, different materials have different resonance frequencies, thermal capacity etc. Depends what you're after really, larger diameter will give you a lower frequency but slower gas velocity.

I would get you a video but I don't have my car atm but I've got a decat as well which changed the sound a bit ;)

I had one of those exhaust on my first 5th gen, all it did was rust :(

Also while I'm hating on it the back box has a 4.5" tip. Without the exhaust bung I found it to be way too loud and with the bung in it was very raspy.
