H22a7 power aim

No, not in the key of C. An H is likely involved though ...

H22a7 power aim

Post by Drax » Thu Jun 04, 2015 2:33 pm

a mate of mine has an ATR and aims to get 250bhp from it.
Nath, you got 242 from your a7 recently from just;

AEM Engine Management System 30-1060
Mugen Exhaust Manifold & Downpipe (Heat-wrapped)
Mugen Twinloop Exhaust
Custom Decat
OEM Type-S Intake with K&N Panel Filter
OEM S2000 Injectors (360cc)
Resonator Delete
EGR Delete
Carbon Canister Delete

any ideas how he'd make the extra 8bhp without buying bigger cams?
im thinking;
68mm tb and port match
head skim
head p&p
uprated fuel pump
2.2 JDM DOHC SI-VTEC LSD TCS 4WS ABS BB1 MANUAL 1992

Probably wouldn't need the fuel pump, but what you've suggested plus adjustable cam gears and also use Hondata S300, not AEM. That'll see him past 250 more than likely.

:? hondata better than aem? :?
I know drokk all about such things really, because I've not bothered reading up on it in any detail (no need yet) but what I'd picked up from glancing through posts on ECU discussions is that everyone gets pocketrockets over the AEM ECU in comparison to hondata?

That was always my thinking, but having spoken to Rich when I picked up my car the other day, it turns out that AEM doesn't like Honda sensors a huge deal. It can be quite finicky with it's readings and easily find fault with them. My car for instance has to crank over 3 or so times before the the AEM goes Ok right the crank position is there, and fire up. It does this everytime.

Rich's words when tuning mine were... "Took a bit of getting and a fair bit of sorting to the map but got there in the end."

I think Rich said there's been 3 or 4 cases where they've had to remove the AEM EMS entirely (Whether it be under warranty) and replace it with a new one or something else.

Hondata being designed around Hondas has absolutely no issues with Honda sensors and therefore you'll always be able to get the most out of your engine.

What about a valve job? Its one of those things that lets you unleash the power!

It's an unneccessary expense if he's only wanting 250bhp though.

Yeah perhaps, If porting and polishing it might be needed (going to 68mm TB). Everything is going to be out of the head anyway?

True, but I think a true beneficial valve job is quite difficult to achieve. As in there's quite a science to it if you want it done right. With that comes time and money. As always it completely depends on the guy's budget.
