E -manage

Has anyone experience or seen others try an e - manage on their 5th gen? The stock map seems pretty rich so I reckon you could take some fuel out in places and maybe play with the spark timing a bit too. I already have a bit of experience as I'm using a standalone megasquirt on my turbo mx5 but for the honda I'm not sure I want to mess about with the obd harness to fit an old but tunable ecu...

You can get a boomslang harness for about £70-£80 which clips straight in, less messing around than installing a piggy back ;)

I will be using the Greddy E-manage Ultimate. Purely to keep ATTS and is "as good as" a stand alone ECU with its tunning capabilities. Well its really the only option to keep ATTS really on OBD2.

For that money, I would get the AEM FIC as it's newer, has more tables and more functions including vtec control.

You can ONLY retard timing on standalones. If you just want to trim a few % off your fuel, you can't go wrong with an A'PEXi NEO.

woops - sorry. I meant to say you can only retard timing on Piggy Backs (Or strap ons as my engineer calls them).

no worries - shouldn't be too difficult to get a WB O2 in there and sort it out. i'm probably happy not messing about with the timing as you probably wont get big gains anyway. Although this car was meant to be my 'stock' car to allow me to sort out the MX5!!

I have a Greddy E-manage blue on my 5th Gen. I got the piggy back when the car was normally aspirated and did exactly what you said and pulled out a little fuel through the map and it made more power on the dyno...201bhp up from 193bhp... which was really cool.

E-mange will adjust Vtec no problem and with the ignition loom can do a fairly good job on mapping on fuel and ignition.

I now run a turbonetic T3/T4 Turbo with big injectors and a 3bar greedy map sensor and the E-manage is coping just fine no problem at all with the map, and set-up is really versatile would recommend it. Currently making about 280Bhp.

The only problem with the Emanage is that is used to be a cheepish option but today with prices from the US really bad, there is a lot of other options.

I hear that the Dastek Unichip are nice and cheep and I think are fairly comparable to the Emanage but I don't have any first had knowlage of the system
