What do you guys think of Apexi VAFC?

No, not in the key of C. An H is likely involved though ...

What do you guys think of Apexi VAFC?

Post by vanzep » Mon May 27, 2013 5:19 pm

Im just getting started thinking about tuning the bolt on basic mods with an Apexi VAFC - this would be my first step and i was considering the VAFC as a starting point and wanted to see what you all thought :)

Engine mods i have are:

Type S airintake with K&N flat panel
Hytech rep manifold with 2.5" straight thru (no cat or decat pipe) soon to be mated up with Mugen rep twin loop back box
Resonator removed
Aircon removed
Lightweight pulleys - power steering and alternator (to be fitted)
Spoon copy V2 chip from Rob
Spoon vtec controller
Manual tensioner conversion

I dont plan on doing any engine work or really changing anything else (apart from some type s cams-maybe) as it is a daily drive and needs to stay that way.

So im thinking the VAFC is a cheap and easy way to get what i have all tied in and working just a little bit better and its something i could set up myself i think :?
Any pros/cons please point them out - and if you think im wasting my time withe VAFC then say so

you already have a chip and a vtec controller you don't need anything else at this stage

yeah I know buddy I was just showing that the vafc wasn't needed because a the chip changes all the engine parameters and the vtec controller can change vtec operation so the vafc would be redundant

well the sleepy/spoon chip is set perfect so if I was him I wouldn't move vtec anyway it will be spot on already so its useless

yep im not using the vtec controller but i do like the fact that it lights up when im in vtec so id need to wire in a vtec light in its place :)

so your saying the v2 chip should be all that i need at this stage and there would be no benefits of using a vafc.....if thats the case then i guess that kills that idea stone cold dead

I have to go on the other side here a good tune will for sire help in smoothing out the power band making it more accessible and probably return abit at the pumps if you can get a nice clean burn plus unlock a few extra bhps

my first breaker was a ukdm bb1 with apexi vafc on a H22A2 and it wasnt slow :o
i was also wondering if i could use a vafc to switch between maps - one for economy and one for performance
