Low mileage but tatty 1996 2.2i VTEC

Hi and apologies that my first post in this rather smart looking site and forum is an ad! I run three forums (about photography) myself and I know that people who register just to sell something are looked upon with some suspicion.

My guards red 2.2i VTEC has been with me since new (March 1996). It's done 98,000 miles and the engine and interior are in good condition for the age (timing belt replaced a few years back). The gearbox is still slick, too. The clutch has been a little problematical in later years and had some work done on it not long ago. The 4WS works but only intermittently - seems to be a temperature-related issue. The aircon is not working; it may be as simple as needs gassing, I don't really know.

One new tyre!

The bodywork is tatty, there is no way around that, but I hope that someone will find some value in her because if not I will have to resort to scrapping as we have a 17 year old daughter who needs a car to learn to drive on so we've bought an Astra.

I'm in Hemel Hempstead Herts and work locally too so if you are interested please contact me via the forum and I will get back to you asap. The car needs to be off our drive by the end of next week.

Hi and welcome.

We're not that much of a suspicious lot on here really.

Some pics and price would help though?

You're probably familiar with how to show pics on forums given what you say in the the first part of your post, but if not, you need to upload to something like photobucket and copy the 'img' link into the message text on here.

Look forward to seeing the car.

Yes - I have some recent pix, just need to find them and show them. Am open to offers - basically I don't want to have to scrap her (sentimental!).

Understand about the sentimentality.
Don't come across many 1 owner since new ludes!

I have quickly snapped some pictures and added to the first post in the thread. As I have pointed out the bodywork is not good - the paintwork is faded and has lost its gloss, there are quite a few dings and the rear bumper is loose. I actually have a spare bumper (needs repainting) but never got around to fitting it.

This is either a project for someone or a source of parts.
