The outer casing. I replaced the thermostat and the rubber ring as it came in a kit. It was leaking from the housing so I got some instant gasket and sealed it. Now the rad cap is leaking!

I recently discovered that the lower bolt on the stat cover on mine was sheared ... that'll explain the pink crud around the joint. Replacing the seal and siliconing the mating surfaces didn't work. So my whole stat housing has to come off to get the broken bolt out. Not losing a lot of coolant, but enough so I know it's happening.
