Custom-made exhaust bungs/decibel reducer.

Post by vtectom » Wed Oct 16, 2013 12:23 pm

My new track car hit 104db static at Cadwell which is a bit close for comfort on
a lot of circuits, so I had a look around on Ebay & couldn't find anything
suitable.

Found a local motorbike exhaust fabricator in Colchester & he was brilliant :)

He checked the whole exhaust system out & made me a bung that has brought
static db down to 95 & also reduced the harsh rasp I was getting as well.

Really good value too.

Always wondered that if you add the bung does it decrease the performance?? restriction for the exhaust gases.. :?:

Exhaust is 2.5" which he says is good for up to approx 300bhp, so a smaller diameter bung like
mine should be fine for around 200bhp & may give a little more bottom end torque.

It doesn't feel like it has adversely effected power at all.

Surely all that happens in most dustbin exhausts is that the gas swirls a bit in the large diameter part and sets up an extra resonance? The outlet from the box itself is smaller, anyway. In the end, the bung doesn't step down at all, just carries the gas as if the correct outlet had been fitted in the first place.
