Major Oil Leak
Major Oil Leak
My 5th gen 2.2vti has been off the road for a year, it did have an oil leak and then failed it's MOT on some other points. I moved it today and then left it to run. The engine then cut out and wouldn't hold revs. I pushed the car and found it had left a large oil deposit. I looked underneath and the bottom surface of the sump is covered in oil, looks like it's coming from the gearbox end. Any ideas, crankshaft oil seal perhaps?

Could be, though I hope not as that's a lot of work, could be the vtec spool valve gasket or inlet cam cap, which are both prone to leaking and drip and run down and underneath the gearbox. Best bet is to clean it all up as best you can and recheck for leaks.jamesmac wrote:Any ideas, crankshaft oil seal perhaps?

Did it have any leaks before you took it off the road?
That might help someone diagnose the problem.
If it didn't, maybe it's just a gasket which has perished due to changeable temperatures over the past year.
Maybe sump gasket?
