All sorted now. Turns out low coolant was the issue (expansion bottle had loads in but nothing at the fitv and upon further inspection...not much in the rad). All topped up with a quick check of the vitals and all is well. Thanks everyone for your input :-)

Hmm...that's a tricky one. Mine, as it turns out isn't sorted. It started hunting this morning when it's cold but idled fine when warmed up.

I did notice a lack of power this evening when driving home. And a bit of a rattle when on part-throttle which I'm going to have to investigate. Hopefully it's nothing sinister.

If it's hunting when cold but fine when warm then its the other valve, the cold start one, I can't remember the acronym people 'give it, (IACV or something) but it should be an easy fix.

The FITV controls cold idle and the IACV controls warm idle.

IS there anything stopping your throttle plate from closing properly? Any build up of gunge?

When the engine is cold remove the intake tubing to reveal the throttle body. There are two holes in the throttle body, the top hole is goes to the IACV and the bottom hole goes to the FITV. Start the engine and while it is warming up block the bottom hole with your finger. The car should try and stall as you are blocking air that is going into the intake manifold.

Also have a read of the service manual beginning page 263 (section11-74) as it gives you a trouble shooting flowchart to follow.

Air locks can also cause them to hunt, had that problem myself.
