Well i already have the apexi vafc lol

Anything that increases the amount of unburnt fuel in the exhaust will promote flames. If the apexi vafc allows you to overfuel, and that fuel makes its way into the exhaust, then it may flame. You will probably need a decat fitted for it to work.

As best i can make out it alters air fuel ratios

Would that be enough or do i need a fuel rail injectors etc

The apexi vafc is meant to allow small changes. You wont max out anything so stock injectors will be fine.
