engine oil light comes on only in vtec

The car has only had one owner from its 16 years in the uk and it was an elderly man.I cant see him changing the oil light to a vtec light to be honest.As soon as I rev the car and vtec engages the light comes on and stays on,Then when I pull over and turn the engine off and back on and the light disappears.

I think the previous owner may have put the wrong oil and filter on the car,so i ll start by changing them on Saturday

Pressure switch/wiring issue/failed VTEC light mod I reckon.

It won't be oil/filter for sure.

The engine cannot have good pressure at idle then a genuine lack of oil pressure only once VTEC has engaged @ ~5500rpm

If you can get hold of an oil pressure gauge that you screw into the block that will tell you. H22's should idle at higher than 10 PSI and at 3krpm (trying to remember the exact figure here) the oil pressure should be better than 30 PSI.

If you need an OEM oil pressure sensor let me know as I will be removing the one from my other engine (installing an aftermarket oil pressure sensor in its place).

Since I changed the oil and filter the roads have been wet and icy so I have only managed to get the car Into vtec once and it did not happen,The old oil was really bad so I am hoping this has cured it but I ll let you know if it stars doing it again.Like you said,Its proberly more than oil and filter but fingers crossed its just a small issue.

Failing that,I will be interested in your oil pressure switch
