Exhaust blowing but exhaust in good condition?

Post by Rocky » Mon May 07, 2012 9:42 am

Hi guys,

I've noticed resently that my exhaust sounds horrendous especially under load.

So I took it to a reputable exhaust place and was told the exhaust seems fine, no leaks, holes or corrosion.

Anyone got any idea what could be causeing this sound if not the exhaust.

It's at it's worse at lower speeds up hill, like a multistorey car park.

could be coming from the front of the exhaust? engine-mani or mani-downpipe? they would be pretty hard places to spot leaks while up on a ramp

Have you sorted out why your car is down on power? Could it be related?

i had exactly the same, found it in the end, it was a hole, not easly spotted. these exhausts go where the two goes into one usually on top facing towards the underside of the car which is why its vertually imposible to find. mine was a small hole the size of a pee but sounded load, i didnt find it till i changed the pipe and even then it was only when it was leaning up against a wall and i was talking on the phone poking the pipe with a nail not really taking any notice of what i was doing (a bit like doogling on a notepad while on the phone), then suddenly the nail found the hole  ah ah there it is, bas..rd  so i checked another pipe i had in the shed and sure enough exactly the same. :o

I think it just needs a service but the exhaust won't be helping.

I'm going to change plugs and air filter today and pay for somewhere to do an oil change since its an arse to do on the side of the road.

On a slightly different note, I asked them to check the brakes while it's in (started to squeal). They told me the rear callipers are sticking.....the callipers they replaced for recons November last year :)

They're now. Being stripped and serviced for free.
