cambelt side - how many oil seals
So I'm preparing for my big summer sort out, buying all the bits and then I'm forced to do the jobs lol.
I've ordered the cambelt kit (blueprint kit, 2x belts, 1x idler for balance belt, 1x tensioner pulley/bracket for cambelt), genuine hydraulic damper/tensioner, genuine waterpump. All the usual service items as well.
I'm redoing my valve adjustments, so new cam cover seal (inc bolts and sparkplug well seals).
My question is, how many oil seals are down that side of the engine that I should replace whilst the belt is off.
2x cam seals
2x balance shaft seals? Hard to make out in the parts listing
1x crank seal (hard to make out in the electronic parts catalogue), or are there 2?
H22A8 , not that I think it makes much difference compared to any H22 for oil seals.
I have always observed a drop of oil on the bottom of the cambelt cover, but its impossible to know where the leak is without removing it, so best to get all seals as I only want to take it all off once.

Only one balance shaft seal (front) to deal with, well sort of.
The oil pump is a possible source of an oil leak, which also integrates the rear balance shaft gubbins.
The others, yes, 2 cam seals and one crank seal.

I presume then that the rear balance shafts seal is held captive by the oil pump housing then - which would necessitate removing the oil pump? or is the pump itself the seal against the block.
Since its unlikely this area will ever be disturbed again, it would make sense to remove the oil pump if required, check the surfaces/mating faces and any other seals behind the pump.
Perhaps i should have read the service manual before posting! (if someone could only redo the index pages so they are searchable would make life easier).

ah the beauty of part numbers.
All ordered off ebay, all genuine honda parts, 3 different sellers, some UK some US.
Cam end bung
2x camshaft seals
crank seal
balance seal retainer kit
balance shaft seal
another 80quid gone, but not as bad as I had expected!

If there is no obvious leak from the oil pump area, I'd leave it alone, the possibility of opening a can of worms is pretty high.
If you have not one already, probably worth getting the rear balance shaft alignment/locking pin.

It's pump against the block, then shaft housing to the pump, this should give you an idea of the setup:

^^^ thats right - i bought loads of seals and then decided to check condition of the seals that were in place before thinking of replacing anything. Most of the jobs looked to be a real pain so belts, pulleys, tensioner and any easy to do seals and retainer kit with dipstick o ring (this is possible source of drip down bottom of cambelt side plastic cover) and of course always the water pump
and yeah oem part numbers are essential and then cross referencing to known good quality aftermarket suppliers - some times you get lucky and get actual oem parts for pennies

Welll, i'm off to a bad start already lol.
The OEM water pump I ordered from Tegiwa, arrived in a jiffy bag (so just the honda bubble bag in a jiffy bag)! The edge of the housing that keeps the rubber seal captive is bent/torn/broken. What kind of idiots put a 1kilo waterpump in a jiffy bag only. Raised a return process through ebay - hopefully they don't give me the run around (I've known some places ask about 10 questions before agreeing to it).
On a side note - might splash out on some honda oem alternator belt. I bought some decent branded ones, but i still get slippage in very wet weather when running headlights/foglights/aircon/blower.... I half suspect the lucas refurbed alternator, the pulley looked very 'silvered' and not as grippy as the original - or perhaps the newer belts are made from a material which stretches and requires auto tensioning which the older hondas don't do. Nothing but trouble lol.

Returned the waterpump for a full refund, no hassle. They apologised and said it should never have been shipped in a jiffy bag.Scott560 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 20, 2021 9:53 amWelll, i'm off to a bad start already lol.

Guess what? I ordered another one as only 1 showing left in stock on ebay, and it turned up exactly the same in a jiffy bag again! By luck, only a tiny dent on it's outer lip but its not a sealing surface and purely cosmetic this time, so no point in making a fuss. Still, it reminds me not to order anything from them again. I even put message to seller, which did actually get printed out on the pick sheet, but no one read it hah. Idiots...

oh, and they wanted me to return the item outside of ebay suggesting that postage costs couldn't be refunded. I declined on principle, and the return through Ebay allows you to print a postage label at their cost.
