Identifying Fujitsubo exhaust

Post by Max » Sat Jan 15, 2022 5:49 pm

So when i got my Type S it turned out to have a Fujitsubo exhaust back box on it which sounded just lovely, however it wasnt mounted very well as the big hanger towards the back didnt quite line up with the rubber so i kind of always assumed it was meant for a 4th gen or something as ive read people have swapped between generations. It was also leaking from the weld around the back of the box and the other issue was the cat back/mid section was some mild steel jobbie that was rusty and had been hacked up with a couple of clamps and was leaking badly and wasn't worth saving.

I spent some time fixing up the car and when i was reasonably satisfied i decided to get the back box welded and bought a cheap clamp and some exhaust goo to patch up the mid pipe and get it through the MOT for the time being, all went to plan and the car was back on the road, but i still wanted to sort the exhaust out properly.

For these reasons and the fact that i wanted to have a twin OEM style exhaust i decided best thing to do was get a custom one built by Infinity who aren't a million miles away from me. Fast forward a while and i still have it lying around as i couldn't bring myself to bin it. Anyway i decided today to clean it up and let some 4th gen owner have the opportunity and while i was cleaning it up i kept looking at the numbers on the Jasma stamp. There are two numbers, 001 and 97-000228 and at first i assumed they were just some serial numbers but that 001 kept making me think is this number 001 of XXX made and what exactly was the exhaust actually meant to fit?

After a bit of the old googling i found a thread that explained what 001 meant and it turns out its the Jasma manufacturer number ie Fujitsubo.

https://forum.combustionpunks.co.uk/t/t ... -mean/1902

So i thought what about this other number 97-000228... and what i found was the part number on the Fujitsubo website and the listing was for a BB6 SiR Type S!

https://www.fujitsubo.co.jp/products/detail/567

Now looking at the exhaust again it matches the picture exactly except the long hanger at the back has the end bent down, if the end was to be bent up 5 degrees it would be exactly the same. So i can only conclude that for unknown reasons at some point in its life it was in fact on a 4th gen or something...

What do you think guys am i right?

FYI i am still going to sell it as i just cant be arsed to get the current pipe hacked up to refit this, it looks pretty good now and just needs a good polish :)

Get some pics up :)
Type S does have a different exhaust to other 5th gens but as you say it may have come from a 4th gen...pics should help clear that up tho and there are a few type s owners on here that could have a look ;)

The more i think about it the more i think it must be a Type S exhaust, that hanger is just so close yet so far, will hopefully finish polishing it up in the next day or two and then will put some pics up :)

The Type S exhaust is identical to all 5th gens except for the collector around the front subframe and the cat.
The Fujitsubomlegalos r was the only exhaust available for the 4th or 5th gen. Could be a 4th gen eggsause.

Yeah it seems this is the only option for a 5th gen so would fit all 5th gens, the hangers on the 4th gen version look distinctly different in the pics though, it has 1 hanger on the back of the box and the other at the front whereas the 5th has 2 at the font (depending on which way round you look at it). Im pretty confident its a 5th gen exhaust, just that hanger is slightly off that doesn't make sense, maybe a previous owner used a longer than normal rubber and bent the hanger to suit.

I thought it came up well :D

I know these things are only worth what someone will pay for it, but anyone want to guide me on roughly what i should price it at?

Still no idea why the end of the hanger was bent in the wrong orientation but i hit it with a blowtorch and straightened it out and now its perfect :)
