I've been using this for years without any complaints: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-990-fuchs-t ... n-xtr.aspxgiblet wrote:My car is still in KM's but is on around 90,000 miles, according to the paperwork the last service was just under a year ago so its time I serviced it. Looking at the Castrol GTX Magnatec 10W40, 4 litres for £20. Any alternative suggestions?

IMO it's fine. Magnatec is all I have ever used in my 5th (now 100K miles) and it hasn't fallen to bits yet, despite my thrashing of it. I look at it this way, most oils will exceed the spec of the oil that was specified when the engine was designed. My H22a8 only wants to squeeze it into my engine bay anyway
Most varieites of Magnatec I have seen in shops are an ACEA A1 oil of which all of these are: http://www.opieoils.co.uk/c-1246-acea-a1b1.aspx
The service manual (Page 3-2) states under engine lubrication
Even bog standard Castrol GTX exceeds this spec:
I do use a superior oil in my track car but that spends its life at constant high RPM.

Use SJ "Energy Conserving" oil

is a premium, super multigrade that provides maximum protection in all seasons and can help extend engine life. SAE 10W-40 exceeds API service SM, SL, SJ and SH as well as exceeding the engine protection requirements for API Certified Gasoline Engine Oils.
