De-comp Plates

Post by lambpie » Tue Dec 11, 2012 12:39 am

I've just been having a read of this post:-

http://www.projectpuma.com/viewtopic.php?f=64&t=6583

It's a good read and results in a 230bhp+ puma for not a lot of money.

One thing that did catch my eye was the use of a decompression plate, has anyone on here got experience of something similar on the h22 engine?

I like the idea of a low comp turbo setup :-)

I dunno if this is related but a mate of mine had the wrong thickness gasket fitted when he had something done, and it ran like jobby til it was sorted.

Sounds like a similar thing in theory :?

never heard of anyone use one on a honda. bit of a bodgy way of doing it. you can get thicker headgaskets which would do the same job.

people use low comp for turbo as it gives a bit more flexibility with the tune. a lower comp engine makes less power per psi of boost.

Yeah I didn't write that very well  took his STi to main dealer, they fitted the wrong head gasket and it was terrible.

They make less ponies for the same psi boost... BUT they use lower compression to prevent pre-ignition also meaning you can add more timing therfore more torque.
I'm boosting a stock h22a, and will swap that out for my h22a5 when it looses conpression as the a5 runs a lower compression ratio :-)
