Exhaust Front Pipe

Post by andypont » Fri Dec 28, 2012 2:45 pm

My front pipe (between manifold / downpipes & cat) has gone.
The local garage that I use for my MOTs and repair work is telling me that none of the suppliers list this section for a 1998 5th gen, 2.2vti. Auto.
I notice on wiki that all 5th gens have slightly differing part numbers but the 18210-S30 remains constant.
Does anybody know if listed sections from other versions for different engines will be a straight fit?

Yeah. it is where the flexi joins the main pipe. I didnt know they were availanle seperate.
I think the garage has managed to get a front pipe now, but will keep this in mind if things dont do to plan. Thanks.

My flexi went (Insides let go blocking the exhaust). Simple and cheap answer is draw a line down the exhaust with it off the car, cut the flexi out, tack the new flexi in place with the lines lining up, check it on the car, weld it up. There will be no ill effects providing the person welding does a good job, and it'll cost £10-15 for a flexi tops and should be no more that £25-£30 to cut it out and weld a new one in. You could always look on ebay for a manifold with down pipe, but I would just weld a new flexi in if the rest of the exhaust is ok!

The pipe around the flexi isnt very good.
Hopefully I should be sorted now, as theres a replacemtn section being delivered tomorrow.

If its not what I expect then I will end up getting one of these
