engine query on gen 5 2.0i

Post by lexi » Tue Jan 22, 2013 4:59 pm

Well after stripping out window reg and fitting another, plus freeing the actuators, testing etc, I got it back together. All working nicely. Right ,lets go for a blast. Mmm! Engine turned as per normal but didn't start right away as usual. Ok it's been sat on drive. Next go with starter and it is spinning very fast. I marked the power steering pump , and it is turning. I don't like this!

Quit for the day as was freezing. Are you guys thinking what I am? Cambelt! I will take cover off tomorrow or a plug out and feel for compression.

My Accord used to do a similar trick if it was parked on a hill. It would spin fast and only when returned to flat would it spin normally and start. I am just fearing that it is spinning very fast because there is no compression :(

Is this an engine that does damage when a belt gives? Only starter pressure mind .

You sure the starter motor is engaging?

I was only able to mark the pulley and jump back into car. Giving it another go on starter and jumping back out, the chalk mark on the pulley was at a different place..........could be slightly catching flywheel though? Will check it more thoroughly in light tomoz.

Thanks for offer on engine Samiya 85. I will try a few things first but I don't think an engine swop will be on the cards really.

Only managed a quick look today as bogged down elsewhere. Took timing belt top cover off.

Got sister to turn key . Cambelt still intact and top pulley and belt turning. Starter must be engaging ? It still spins very fast and sounds higher pitched without starting. Any ideas guys? My next move would have been to take starter off.........but cam pulleys are turning.

Hi Guys
Checked the spark plugs and they are all wet with fuel. Earthed an HT lead to engine block and have a good spark. Dried and cleaned plugs then put some oil down bores in case my cylinders were washed with petrol and flooding thereby losing compression Got a slight fire but nothing really.

I am thinking: Rocker cover off and stick the compression tester on the cylinders. Cambelt may have slipped a tooth? Your thoughts ? Could a sensor be causing engine to flood?

Thanks for any advice.

Pulled the fuel pump fuse and cranked her in 15 second intervals. Then took plugs out and dried them again with heat gun. Put back in and connected FP fuse. Now she attempted to fire. After spluttering and keeping going for a bit ,the starter forced her into life.

Cylinders may have been washed with fuel dumped from ECU. Probably with turning IGN on and off testing window motors etc.
The only other thing I learned was that a faulty engine coolant sensor could do this. Ain't checked that but will see if she starts from cold later.

Thanks for views and replys guys.
