Fair one- I wonder why they did that?

I have wracked my brains but I cant figure out why the auto's from 99 onwards still used the a5. Maybe Honda just couldnt be bothered (or saw little need to) to redesign the a8 as an auto so stuck with the a5?

Maybe the 5g chocolate box couldn't handle the extra power?

Could be, although its only an extra 12-15bhp and a couple of lb/ft. Perhaps the thought of having to retune the ECU and how the gearbox works wasnt worth it if sales of Preludes were generally falling.

Perhaps the a8 came about from the design work done on the a7 for the ATR but to keep it group 18 instead of 19 they just pegged it back a bit

That would be an easier option IMO.

^^^yes to this. Keep your eyes open and be ready. there are great cars going for a song right now.

If you wanr more 'power' from the off then think about getting one without sunroof, powersteering etc as these will be the first to go when you begin stripping weight off it. You can get around 60kg gone easy enough with some carbon and some tinkering.

If your rocking an A5 then you have a wealth of options but you had better have wealth  every solid extra pony you get out of the H22 will cost you serious cash. Speak to rich at www.performanceautoworks.co.uk for a reliable 275bhp 195ft/lb H22. Gonna cost you though
6th gen Prelude please Mr Honda. RWD 2.4 turbo lude.

With our BB1 4g track car (a2) we have just limited engine work to simple breathing mods & a spoon chipped JDM P13 ECU. Not dyno'd it yet but it's certainly pretty healthy.

The way I see it, we can eventually move on to an a7 or a8 motor.

With a suitable remap & using the existing bolt-on breathing mods we will be looking at 220+BHP.

~30hp gain on what we have now without so much as opening the new motor or compromising reliability

Doesn't make huge financial sense to me getting carried away tuning an a2 when it has less compression from the factory than h22a7 or a8
